Not what I was GOING to post... (Pokemon Oneshot that will tie into some other fics)

So I felt distinctly unfabulous unromantic today, so I'm afraid the VDay fic will have to wait.
In fact, I felt downright shitty and bitter today.
I guess it has to do with last night and thinking about my childhood and talking about it with [livejournal.com profile] blackjackrocket . Then I was at the store, realized I didn't get anything for Valentine's Day (I did but didn't realize it), and picked myself up some strawberries covered in chocolate...and then it hit me that my mother was not only married by my age, but probably pregnant with me...
So yeah. Cue bitterness.
EDIT: Damn, I just realized I've kind of been selfish and a bitch today... *apologies to EVERYONE*

So, while I'm posting a story, it's...well, it technically a romance, but mostly a drama/angst.
I've actually been meaning to refer to this event at some point...
It isn't very well written, IMHO, but hopefully you'll like it a little.
So, here's the story:

Title: Letting go
Characters: Gavriel and Dvorah Awres, Seren, Giovanni, G&S's kids
Genre: Romance/drama/angst
Notes: Actually goes along with the VDay fic I'll post later, when I can manage it
Mia Stella- "My star" in Italian
Neshama- "My soul" in Hebrew
Ema- "mother" in Hebrew, but also can indicate a grandmother or mother-figure

Summary: An extremely shortened version of two people dealing with pain.
Happens between Madame Boss’s sentencing in Bare, and his taking over Team Rocket in the same story.
Part two occurs a few years in the future (so they’re in their early 40s, probably 42 to be exact)

It was a cold winter day as Gavriel Awres studied one of his Talmud volumes, trying to tie together threads in a chapter he would teach on that Saturday, when his wife tapped him on the shoulder. Looking up, the bearded man saw his lovely red-headed wife with a cup of tea in her hands, “Dearest, you’ve been studying for hours. Why don’t you take a break and let your subconscious handle it for a bit?”

He smiled, patting her hand, “That sounds like a good idea.” He stood up and stretched, and as he did, there was a rapping at the door,. When he opened it, though, he was shocked to see his daughter standing there, sobbing, “Sere, what’s wrong? What are you doing here?” He asked as she flopped into her mother’s arms. She blubbered something for a bit, before he told her, “Honey, we can’t understand you…”
Seren pulled her face up from the shoulder, and after awhile, they were able to make out “I can’t do this anymore”.

“Why, what’s going on?” Gavriel asked.

She mumbled something, at which her mother translated: “It’s getting to be too much..” -mumble mumble- “We had a big fight,” -blubber- “Something about the pressure being too great on her and she can’t handle anymore.”

Gavriel sighed. He had a feeling this would happen after that event, and as he began to speak, the phone rang. “I’ll get it.” He looked at the caller ID, and it was exactly who he figured it would be. Excusing himself from the room, he answered, “What’s going on, Vanni?”

The man on the other side sighed, “I…I had a flashback when she was trying to cuddle up to me, and the next thing I know, she’s screaming at me and going on about how she’s taking care of everything and how she’s so stressed and everything and I tried apologizing but it didn’t work and nowIfeelterribleandthekidsare…” He was quickly falling into depression and becoming incoherent.

“Alright, I’ll be right there, son. Just keep talking. Where are the kids now?”

“I-in their rooms, I think they’re scared…”

“Alright, just stay with me, kiddo…” He turned to his wife, starting to speak, when she shushed him, mouthing “I’ll handle her, go to him.” He nodded, patting his daughter on the back, before running out the door.
When he got to the house, Giovanni was sitting on the porch swing outside, bent over with his head in his hands. “Alright, start at the beginning.”
“It just…just started when I had the flashback.”
“The flashback to the incident?” -Nod nod- “Do you want to tell me about it, or go on?”
“I’ll…maybe it’ll help if I say.”

“So then?” Dvorah asked.
“I…I just exploded…” Seren starred at the cup of tea in her hands, then closing her eyes, continued, “I’ve been trying so hard to provide for him and the kids, and I just don’t know if I can do it anymore…”
“Why?”

“She started screaming about me not being the only one who was hurt that day, that no one seemed to care that she lost the twins…” Giovanni said, after he had composed himself from recounting the flashback. He gripped the swing’s chains until his knuckles turned white, “Of course I care…I know you two do as well.”
“Do you feel guilty about it?”
His son-in-law looked at him incredulously, “Of course I feel guilty. I…couldn’t protect myself, I couldn't protect her…” He looked back down, and Gavriel could see tears forming in his black eyes, “I couldn’t even protect them… “
“Have you ever considered it’s not your fault? That it’s Isabella’s? Have you ever considered just…”

“Seren, yes, you were hurt very badly that day as well, and it’s tragic that you lost the babies. But yo…”
“I know I’m not the only one, Ema! But I’m sick of people telling me that…I…I wasn’t even able to mourn them. I had to throw that to the side and take care of him and our children, and I haven’t had one moment to stop and have some time to myself to just…”

“Letting go?” Gavriel asked.
“Let go?” Dvorah inquired.

Giovanni stared at his the only father figure he had left for a long time, before replying, “I…don’t know how…”
Gavriel smiled, “Mourning will help, but let’s make sure the kids are alright, first…”

“Better?” Dvorah asked as Seren wiped her eyes.
Seren nodded, sniffing, “A little…I feel pretty bad about yelling at him now, though. It’s not his fault…and I kind of scared the kids…”
“Why don’t we go back to the house then? You can apologize there.”

“Daddy, is…are you and Mommy going to be okay?” Little Aino asked, bright blue sapphires staring up into ebony.
“Yes, sweetie,” he ran the fingers of one hair through her raven hair, and the other hand played through Yocheved’s teal locks, “I think so…things have been kind of rough, haven’t they?”
“Yes, sir,” Yocheved said, burying her face into his neck so he couldn’t see the tears in her brown eyes.
“Are you two going to get divorced?” Their slightly older sister Giovanna asked, looking worried.
“What…no, Vanna…we’re going to get through this. And…the family will be stronger for it.”
Junior and Rosa stayed silent for the most part, until they saw a car pull into the driveway. “Ema’s car is here!” Rosa chirpped, “an’ Momma’s with her!”
Junior patted his father’s hand, trying to be strong, “Don’t worry, Dad. I know it’ll be okay…”

Giovanni smiled at his eldest son, ruffling the black fluff the child called hair, “Yeah, it will be.” He said as Dvorah and Seren exited the car. He took a deep breath, and, carefully removing the quadruplets crowding his lap and setting them on the swing, went to his wife. The two met in the middle, on the lawn, and as the red sun started sinking below the horizon, they embraced, crying together and apologizing.
Gavriel smiled as he and his own wife watched them, and somehow he knew everything indeed would be okay.

The couple sits on the grass beside a lake, watching the Yanma and Ledyba play across the water, and she asks him what he was thinking of, once she rouses him from the daydream.

“Thinking to a more tumultuous time, my love,” he inspects the wine in his glass, stares at the light coming through the burgundy liquid, “Do you realize it’s been 12 years since that rather nasty spat we had?”

She grimaces, “No, I had actually forgotten. Thanks for bringing that back up.”

He laughs quietly, “No, no. I’m not bringing it up to torture you, but I was thinking of how much we’ve changed in that time. We got one of the twins back, our marriage has been strengthened…If you hadn’t yelled at me, we’d probably not be as close as we’ve become.” He wraps an arm around her waist; setting down the wine on the picnic blanket, he pulls her close, “I’m rather glad that happened, in hindsight.”

She raises an eyebrow as she looks up at him, “I think you’ve had too much wine, dear. It’s all going to your head and making you act weird.” He pulls her down with him to the grass, “Very weird indeed.”

“I’ll act weird if I want. Especially with the woman I’ve grown to love so.” He presses his lips against her forehead, “I love you, Ser. I’d go to hell itself to fetch you if I must.”

She smiles back, “I love you too, but let’s hope it doesn’t come down to that.”

They stare at the beautiful lake for awhile, then he says, “Happy Valentine’s Day, mia stella.”

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Neshama.”

“Come on,” He stands up, pulls her to her feet, “let’s go up to the cabin now. I’ve got some surprises for you.”

“Oh, dear, how many grunts died for this surprise, I wonder…” She chuckles, but as they walk up to the little log house, finger intertwined, she hopes that nothing ever comes between them like that again.
And somehow, she’s rather certain nothing will.

*This is my first true Oneshot in quite a while, and for me, oneshots usually get written when I'm feeling something...usually angst, which is what started this one...
*It ties into Candy, which will be my official VDay post, and also Bare.
*The phrase "How many grunts died for this, I wonder", is from the original Candy draft, where Seren inquires about Giovanni trying to make a new recipe, and who he tests it on.
*This is also the quadruplets' first named appearance together.

And now that that's posted, I'm going to go eat something, now that I feel better.
Hope you like!

vanni & seren have been through such tumultuous times, haven't they? poor dears D;
but the cute ending makes up for it! they're so adorable~~

“Oh, dear, how many grunts died for this surprise, I wonder…”
i lol'd xD

and another thing
then it hit me that my mother was not only married by my age, but probably pregnant with me...
oh goodness. my dear, you are far too young to be worried about such things. only those age 30 and up are allowed to fret over not being married x]
in other words
ENJOY YOUR YOUTH

:3 Thank you~~

Yes, they have. Yeah, hopefully it does.

Yeah, that's one of my favorite lines. The original Candy draft has this version:
"Oh god, you’re trying a new recipe. How many Pokemon died testing it?” (Seren)
“Ah, what a cruel beauty you are,” he gave her a mock-hurt look, “thinking I would test my cooking on innocent Pokemon.” Then he smirked, “That’s what the grunts are for.”
She one ups it when she mentions needing to update her will before she tries it...=D
And quite a few people di...*stops before she reveals too much of Candy*

Hm, I hope you're right...
Stupid "time of the month"'s making me crazy...
Whoa...sparkles...
Yeah, what is it, you 16, me 20, almost 21?
If I'm this weird at 20, can you imagine how YOU'LL be??
MWHAHA!

Also, this is the first time I've actually had them say "I love you".
I figured it was appropriate =)
